  • Name,Syndromes and Treatments of Chronic Brain Injury in Traditional Chinese Medicine

    DING Yuanqing;The Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine;

    According to the attacking and injuring characteristics of chronic brain injury,the author names it "brain injury and spirit weakness disease" in traditional Chinese medicine and makes an initial summary on diagnostic criteria of "brain injury and spirit weakness". With the brain as the main injured region,the key pathogenesis of the disease is kidney deficiency and pathogenic factors accumulation which then causes injury of brains and vital spirit. At the same time,other common pathogenesis includes viscera deficiency,meridians injury,obstruction of blood vessels and stoppage of blood flow. For the excess of pathogenic factors,lingering pathogenic factors in the deficient part,retention of phlegm,turbidity and blood stasis,obstruction of the brain by pathogenic factors,all of them are the sources of it. Although the pathogenesis is complicated,deficiency of the kidney and essence and decline of the brain and marrow are the fundamental causes. In clinical treatment,the disease can be divided into six syndromes and the general treatment principles are as follows:consolidating body resistance by tonifying the kidney essence and generating marrow,treating symptoms by resolving phlegm,promoting blood circulation,removing blood stasis and unblocking meridians,with a supplementary of generating marrow to benefit the brain and spirit. For medicines,kidney-tonifying and skill-strengthening medicine should be used as the main medicine.Besides,medicines for nourishing yin,resolving phlegm,suppressing yang,extinguishing wind,promoting blood circulation and unblocking collaterals also should be taken into consideration.

  • Conflicts and Integration among Theories of Five Zang-Viscera,Six Fu-Viscera and Twelve Channels

    LIU Peng;Basic Medical College of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine;

    There are conflicts among five Zang-viscera,six Fu-viscera and twelve channels. Five Zang-viscera and six Fu-viscera represent yin and yang respectively and they are the exterior or interior of each other,but the number of five and six does not match obviously. The twelve channels correspond to the zang-fu viscera,but the five Zang-viscera and six Fu-viscera directly add up to eleven,which is obviously not equal to twelve. Therefore,the theory of five Zang-viscera,six Fu-viscera and twelve channels in Huangdi's Internal Classic should have different origins. Firstly,the five Zang-viscera were set up to correspond to the five elements. Secondly,the setting of the six Fu-viscera was not originally intended to correspond to the five Zang-viscera and five elements. Thirdly,the twelve channels were not designed to correspond to the five Zang-viscera,but to transform the five Zang-viscera and integrate the six Fu-viscera according to the criterion of trichotomy of yin and yang. Above all,the editors of Huangdi's Internal Classic took the prevailing yin-yang and five elements doctrine of the Han Dynasty as the standard,reformed and combined them,and realized the integration of academic thoughts of different schools.

  • Ideas and Methods of Treating Hepatitis B Virus(HBV)-Related Cirrhosis with Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Based on Concept of “Dispelling Pathogenic Factors First”

    LI Lu;HU Dongqing;SUN Jianguang;WANG Lei;Department of Hepatology,the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine;

    Hepatitis B virus(HBV)-related cirrhosis is the end-stage of chronic HBV infection. The progress of liver cirrhosis is related to the level of HBV in vivo and long-term effective etiological treatment makes partial regression of liver cirrhosis possible. Antiviral treatment shows the important clinical significance of controlling the etiological factors,which is in line with the therapeutic concept of "removing pathogenic factors to restore health" in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). According to the theory of TCM epidemic febrile disease,HBV belongs to the category of "latent pathogenic factor" and its nature is dampness-heat epidemic toxin. Dampness-heat epidemic toxin lingering in blood and stagnant heat entering collaterals is the core pathogenesis of HBV-related cirrhosis. From the aspect of combination of disease and syndrome,the treatment emphasizes "dispelling pathogenic factors first" and the basic methods are clearing away heat,detoxifying toxins and removing blood stasis.As a basic prescription,Sanjia Fugan Decoction is added or subtracted according to different conditions,combined with standard anti-HBV treatment. At the same time,Chinese patent drugs for anti-hepatic fibrosis are applied according to syndrome differentiation,in order to block,delay or reverse the progress of liver cirrhosis in time.

  • New Ideas of Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Diseases in Traditional Chinese Medicine Based on Systematic Theory

    LI Peilan;YUAN Kang;LI Kuangyi;CAI Hairong;Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine;Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine;

    Systematics is a science proposed by QIAN Xuesen to study the general laws of system structure and function. According to the systematics and the diagnosis and treatment theories of pulmonary diseases in The Inner Canon of Huangdi and Treatise on Febrile Diseases,the pulmonary system can be divided into three parts,namely lung defense,lung collaterals and lung viscus. The lung defense is on the surface,so diseases of this part mainly locate in skin,hair and nose,which should be treated with Guizhi Mahuang Geban Decoction to disperse wind and cold mildly. The lung collaterals is a part to connect lung defense with lung viscus and the diseases of this part locate in trachea and bronchus,which should be treated with Xiaoqinglong Decoction,Maxingshigan Decoction or Guizhi Jia Houpo Xingzi Decoction,aiming at warming lung and resolving phlegm,clearing and dispersing lung-heat,descending lung qi,respectively. The lung viscus is the core of pulmonary system and the disease location of this part is the deepest. The diseases of this part can be treated with Zhenwu Decoction to warming lung,benefiting yang and promoting urination.

  • Experience of Professor TANG Nong in Treating Recurrent Oral Ulcer in Elderly Patients by Strengthening Yang Method

    QIN Lyuxing;ZHOU Xiaoling;LI Junhong;HUANG Lan;MO Qiulan;ZHENG Pan;MO Xueni;Gou Yao;TANG Nong;Liuzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine;The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine;Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine;

    Guided by the thought of yang in The Inner Canon of Huangdi and the strengthening yang theories of ZHENG Qin'an,Professor TANG Nong believes that recurrent oral ulcers in elderly patients are mostly caused by yang deficiency. For elderly patients,because their yang qi is deficient,the cold pathogen is relatively strong. The cold pathogen invades the position of yang,making the original "yang in the interior and yin in the exterior" structure transforms to "yin in the interior and yang in the exterior". The clinical characteristics often manifested as "heat in the upper and cold in the lower,cold in the interior and heat in the exterior". Therefore,strengthening yang is vital in the treatment,restraining the yang in the exterior and warmming the yin in the interior,so as to making yang come back to its original position and the abnormal "yin in the interior and yang in the exterior" structure returns to "yang in the interior and yin in the exterior". Then the body can reach a harmonious state of yin-yang balance and have self-healing capability. According to the different stages of the disease,Guizhi Decoction,Qianyang Fengsui Pill and Buyi Decoction are used in the treatment to get good effect. One proved case is listed to show the efficacy.
