Section 1 Publishing Scope
Research articles on theories and methods of traditional Chinese medicine, data mining research, experimental research, research on traditional Chinese medicine and prescription, review article, research on Chinese medical history literature, etc. Articles funded by projects at the provincial / ministerial level or above shall be given priority for publishing.
Section 2 Manuscript Requirement
- 1.Content: ① Manuscripts should be scientific and logical, with theoretical and clinical significance and innovative and authentic content. ② Clinical research should have a control group and specify the randomization method. Data should be detailed and reliable, and statistical method should be specific and accurate. The latest methods and indicators should be adopted for research and observation. The source of diagnostic criteria and efficacy criteria should be indicated. ③ Clinical research must meet the requirements of medical ethics, and it should be stated whether it has passed the approval of relevant medical ethics committee. ④ The wordcount should be more than 6000. Generally, 15 to 20 references in the recent 3 to 5 years shall be listed. References of review articles should not be less than 30, reflecting the latest research results. ⑤ "Statistical Method" shall be independent, including the statistical software used, statistical description, specific statistical method and test level.
- 2.Format: The format should be in accordance with the provisions of the "Journal Publication Format Guidelines" issued by the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of China on April 12, 2007, the " Editing Guidelines of Journal in Traditional Chinese Medicine" and the “Manuscript Template” at Download Center of this website.
- 2.1 Title: Article titles are written on the left, generally no more than 20 Chinese characters.
- 2.2 Authors and Institutes: Authors names are written in middle, with institutes information (including the full title of institutes, province, city/county and the postal code). When multiple authors have different institutes, different Arabic numerals shall be added in the upper right corner of the names, and the same number shall be added before the institutes.
- 2.3 Author Information: A brief introduction to the main author (usually the first author) should be provide in the following order: name (year of birth -), gender, nationality, native place, professional title, degree and research field. The information is placed at the footer of the title page, separated from the text by a line.
- 2.4 Abstracts: Abstract should be an independent short summary based on the main body text about 300~500 characters. English translation is required.
- 2.5 Keywords: 5~8 keywords should be selected and separated by ";", representing the main content of the article. Keywords or terms in the text should be subject words in the latest version of Medical Thesaurus (MeSH) and Chinese Medicine Thesaurus.
- 2.6 Funding: Title and serial number of funding project should be noted at the footer of the title page.
- 2.7 References: It is required to list all literatures quoted after the main body text. For detailed format requirement, please refer to the Chinese version of “Guide for Authors” and “Manuscript Template”.
- 2.8 Other Items:
[Author Profile] The information of the first author shall be listed in order: name (year of birth -), gender, nationality (except for Han), native origin (province, city/region), professional title, degree, research direction, telephone number and E-mail.
Section 3 Ethical Policy
- 1.Plagiarism: This journal only accepts original articles that have not been submitted to other journals nor have been published, and the manuscripts submitted shall not contain any plagiarized content. All manuscripts would be tested by the Academic Misconduct Literature Check (AMLC) system. Multiple submission or redundant publishing is strictly prohibited (including submission of the same content in different languages). Should multiple submission be verified, the editorial office will immediately reject the manuscript and all submission from the authors within 2 years.
- 2.Authorship: Those who are named as authors should directly participate in the research work, writing the manuscript or has an important guiding role. “Gift author” is strictly prohibited. The order of authors should be collectively determined before submission and cannot be changed thereafter. The authors should specify their contribution in the Authors Contribution Form and submit it along with the manuscript.
- 3.Medical Ethics: The ethical issue and informed consent of the study must comply with common principles of medical ethics. When research participants are humans, the author should explain whether its procedure comply with the ethical standards formulated by relevant committee (institutional, regional or national) responsible for human trials. The approval document of the committee should be submitted (the approval number should be included in the article). Consent letter from research participants or their relatives must be obtained, but not submitted to the editorial office. When reporting animal experiments, the study should comply with guidelines published by relevant committee on animal rights, and the approval document should be submitted.
- 4.Trial Registration: Clinical trials must include the Universal Trial Number (UTN) obtained from one of the Primary Registries in the WHO Registry Network. If applicable, the authors should specify the registering institution and the UTN within the article.
- 5.Conflict of Interest: All authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest, i.e., when the financing/personal status/affiliation of the authors (or the authors' organization/employer) may affect the authors' decision, work or manuscript. When a product is mentioned, the author should also disclose whether there is a conflict of interest against competitive products. The authors should also fill and sign the Statement of Competing Interests and submit it along with the manuscript.
Section 4 Peer Review and Editing
- 1.Review Policy: The journal follows a double-blind review process. After submission, the editorial office will firstly conduct a preliminary review of the manuscript. The editorial office will reject the manuscripts which are insufficient in originality, having serious scientific or technical mistakes, lacking valuable information, or not in the scope of the journal. The manuscripts which have passed the preliminary review will be sent to two or more reviewers. The authors must respond to the reviewer's every comment and submit the revised version in time. This process would be repeated until the reviewers and editors are satisfied with the manuscript. The Editor-in-Chief will conduct the final round of review and the editorial office shall impartially select manuscripts on the basis of academic quality and the review comment.
- 2.Editing Policy: The responsible editor shall make a basic evaluation of the manuscript and put forward preliminary review opinions. The responsible editor should actively communicate with the author and experts according to the situation of the paper. For accepted manuscripts, the journal may make some technical or wording amendments. Any amendment involving a change of meaning will be sent to authors for confirmation.
- 3.Timing The estimated time of peer review is 2 months. It could be deemed as rejection if there is no reply for more than s month after submission and the manuscript could be re-submitted to another journal.
- 4.Submission by Editors: The editorial staff / editors / editorial board members should not be involved in publishing decisions on papers which they have written themselves or have been written by their family members or colleagues. Any such submission should be strictly subject to the journal’s usual editorial process. Peer review should be handled independently from the relevant author/editor and their research groups.
- 5.Correction and Retraction: Articles published online or in print are considered the final and complete version. In principle, the journal does not make corrections or retractions on published articles. However, in case of the situations described below, corrections or retractions may be carried out if truly necessary.
Correction: If there appears to be an unintended scientific mistake in the article which would not lead to significant impacts on the results and conclusion, the editorial office will publish corrections in the journal as soon as possible, detailing the changes made to the original article and indicating the source of the article. The journal will release the corrected new version of the article, and specify the changes to the original article and the date of update. In addition, the superseded version will also be archived. Readers can obtain it directly, but only the latest version of the article should be used for citation.
Retraction: In the following cases, the editorial office would retract published articles and issue retraction statements: 1) If an article is found to have severe scientific errors making the results and conclusion of the article unreliable; 2) For article suspected of academic misconduct, such as plagiarism and data falsification, the editorial office will initiate an investigation and issue a statement to inform readers of the risks associated with the article. Once the investigation is completed, the result will be made public. If the academic misconduct is confirmed, the article will be immediately retracted and a retraction statement will be issued by the editorial office.
Section 5 Open Access, Copyright and Archive
- 1.Open Access: Journal of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is an open access journal. Once published, all articles will be immediately and permanently available for readers to read and download free of charge. Permitted third party reuse of the articles published by the journal is defined by the following user license: Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). This license allows reusers to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format. The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as the license terms below are followed: reusers must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Reusers may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses the use. Reusers may not use the material for commercial purposes. If reusers remix, transform, or build upon the material, they may not distribute the modified material. The authors have right to spread or make use of the article under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 License. - 2.Copyright Transfer: Once the manuscript is accepted, authors shall sign the Copyright Transfer Agreement. Authors agree that the article would be published in Journal of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the editorial office can make appropriated amendment to the article. After publication, the copyright of the article (including but not limited to the right of reproduction, distribution, online dissemination, performance, translation, compilation, adaptation, etc.) will be transferred to the editorial office of Journal of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine worldwide. The editorial office has right to use the article for publishing relevant books. Authors also agree on the long-term inclusion and use of the article by databases at home and abroad. The article copyright transfer fee and remuneration shall be paid one-off (off-set in article process charge or converted to free print issues).
- 3.Database Inclusion: The journal has been included by CNKI, Wanfang, Weipu, China Post Reading, the open platform of national scientific and technological academic journals, and the Chinese Academic Journals (CD-ROM). Authors should agree that the article would be included and used in domestic and foreign databases in long term. If authors do not agree, they should make a statement when submitting.
- 4.Archive: Since 1977 when the journal was founded, all journal articles have been digitally archived. Articles published after 2021 can be searched and downloaded by full-text from the journal website free of charge. Articles published before 2021 can be downloaded from CNKI. In order to ensure data security, all information has also been backed up in the editorial office. In addition, other relevant materials are also kept by the editorial office, such as supplementary information and forms provided by the authors.
Section 6 Fees and Submission
